What is Company Fulfillment?
The term Fulfillment, also known as Order Fulfillment or Product Fulfillment, refers to the process whereby a company fulfills its obligation to send a product in response to a customer order or request. Any company or company entity performing such a service is subsequently known as a ‘Fulfillment House.’
In order to effectively operate, the Fulfillment House infrastructure requires four key elements:
- a warehouse facility for the secure storage of products,
- an inventory control system to track product inventory levels,
- staff and equipment to perform the pick and pack services,
- and finally a means to ship the products from the warehouse to the customers.
Beyond this typical understanding of the function and form of Fulfillment there are a host of other services that also fall into the realm of Fulfillment, such as: rebates, sweepstakes/competitions, e-commerce solutions and distribution. Each of these services is also performing a Fulfillment related task, but don’t necessarily fall into the traditional model of Fulfillment. It is obvious therefore that Fulfillment has come to be a broader term that can refer to a wider range of Fulfillment related services.
