What is Company Fulfillment?

The term Fulfillment, also known as Order Fulfillment or Product Fulfillment, refers to the process whereby a company fulfills its obligation to send a product in response to a customer order or request. Any company or company entity performing such a service is subsequently known as a ‘Fulfillment House.’

In order to effectively operate, the Fulfillment House infrastructure requires four key elements:

  1. a warehouse facility for the secure storage of products,
  2. an inventory control system to track product inventory levels,
  3. staff and equipment to perform the pick and pack services,
  4. and finally a means to ship the products from the warehouse to the customers.

Beyond this typical understanding of the function and form of Fulfillment there are a host of other services that also fall into the realm of Fulfillment, such as: rebates, sweepstakes/competitions, e-commerce solutions and distribution. Each of these services is also performing a Fulfillment related task, but don’t necessarily fall into the traditional model of Fulfillment. It is obvious therefore that Fulfillment has come to be a broader term that can refer to a wider range of Fulfillment related services.
